REDEFINING the SNACK . . .

Having fun with FRUIT

Having fun with FRUIT

Parents, where did we learn that snacks had to come in a package? At my home, my kids know that snacks consist of veggies, fruit, hummus, almond butter, nuts, cheese, dark chocolate or the occasional "leftovers" from last night's dinner. I know . . . I'm so MEAN! They usually opt for an orange and a few veggies with hummus, but to this day, they beg for a SNACK that comes in a package.

This is what I say: "No" — and I offer them the good stuff. They may complain or compare their friends' snacks, but that's ok. I will stay firm until their love for fresh fruits and veggies develops.

On a special occasion, we may go get some frozen yogurt as a treat, or I will bake homemade cookies  oatmeal raisin is my kids' favorite! And for the record . . . I am human and give in to my firstborn, whose "love language" is sugar and white bread. It's a process!

Let's together toss the package (in the trash), and instead, toss your kids a bell pepper! Help them expand their taste buds by exposing them to all the colorful treats that grow naturally, rather than the processed foods that come out of factories touched by machines and hands.  Not only are they a much healthier option, they will satisfy your child — unlike snacks made with refined white flour, like crackers or Goldfish.

One of my goals during my FIT KID Camp this summer is to help "redefine the snack" with kids during our time together. I will bring an assortment of healthy, nutritious, natural snacks each day for the kids to enjoy . . . and I promise, they will enjoy them!
